Long distance trail Eifelsteig
Hiking in the Eifel
The Eifelsteig is a premium long distance trail of 330 km mostly on small paths crossing the Eifel from north (near Aachen) to south (Trier). It’s a quite young hiking trail (since 2009) and is very popular among hikers and nature lovers. Our holiday flat is located about 2 km from the next access point to the Eifelsteig at Talsperre Perlenau (dam Perlenau). For hikers, who like hiking on comfortably signposted paths, but still really wild and natural deep in the woods of the Eifel, the nearby stages of the Eifelsteig are worth walking.
Nearby stages of the Eifelsteig
- Eifelsteig-stage 2: Roetgen – Monschau, mostly across the Hohes Venn (highmoor, but on paved small roads without cars)
- Eifelsteig-stage 3: Monschau – Einruhr, paths are varied and strenuos
- Eifelsteig-stage 4: Einruhr – Gemünd, starting at the Rursee, crossing the deserted site Wollseifen (former military area) and passing the former nazi-castle Vogelsang

Hints for the Eifelsteig
There is no preparation needed. The Eifelsteig is well signposted, so you don’t have to buy a map (unless you are planning the big tour). But you should know, that it demands a quite good fitness to hike one stage at a stretch. Depending on your endurance one stage takes about 4,5 to 7 hours (walking time without pauses).
